The Paint River is great for beginners; it's known as a "family-friendly" river. There are class III rapids midway downstream at the Upper and Lower Hemlock Rapids, but Paddlers & Pedalers does not run these routes. The Paint is approximately 45 miles long, though we only run trips on part of the river. There are 5 separate trips that can be taken beginning at the Gold Mine Rd. in Gibbs City, MI and ending at the Crystal Falls Power Dam in Crystal Falls, MI. The navigable portion of the river is practically all flat water, with a few mild riffles near the Paint River Forks. The Paint River flows into the Brule River, then joins the Michigamme River to eventually form the Menominee River. Wildlife can be seen at every turn, including bald eagles, deer, waterfowl, etc.
